Thrift Store Problems

It is a good day thrifting when the thrifting gods smile down on me and I find an item I've searched far and wide for. This happened a few weeks ago when I found extremely comfortable combat looking boots at a thrift store a few blocks from where I live. They were the perfect pair. I got so excited that I didn't mind that they were almost $10. I brought them home and awaited the day it wouldn't be too hot to wear them.

This past Saturday I decided to clean the boots and let them see the sunlight. After cleaning them I put them on and noticed some black specks on the floor. I assumed it was nothing and went on my merry way. Literally two minutes later I can no longer step properly on my right foot and realize that the heel of the boot has completely disintegrated.

I was in complete shock. They seemed to be in great condition and yet this still happened. Granted, this is a freak accident but I guess it goes to show that you never know when it comes to thrifting items. It definitely won't stop me from my mission to find awesome black boots. I just have to remember how excited I was to find these and hope I'm lucky enough to find another pair :)

Summer Uniform

I don't know about where you are, but out here in the windy city the wind isn't helping much with this humidity. I've taken the summer weather and created a fool proof formula to beat the heat.

high waisted shorts + loose top= classy summer wear

 Shirt: H&M (sale)/Shorts: thrifted/Belt: thrifted
 Shirt: H&M (sale)/Shorts: thrifted/Belt: hand me down/Clock Necklace: vintage
Shirt: thrifted/Shorts: thrifted/Belt: hand me down/Spike Necklace: Old Navy
 Shirt: Old Navy/Shorts: Thrifted/Belt: Forever21 (old)/Spike Necklace: Old Navy
Shirt: Thrifted DIY/Shorts: thrifted/Sandals: Payless (sale)/Clock Necklace: Vintage
Shirt: Old Navy (sale)/Shorts: thrifted/Belt: thrifted/Shoes: Payless Shoes/Purse: thrifted vintage/ Lion Necklace: Old Navy

I'm a full time nanny and theatre artist and it makes my morning a lot easier when I have a go to look. I've been super obsessed with thrifting shorts this summer and I am proud to say all of these shorts are thrifted. All of the shirts are either thrifted or sale items and I love the looseness of them all. I am currently in love with the silhouette of a loose fitting top tucked into high waisted shorts. On top of that, I love adding a necklace. I am currently loving my vintage clock necklace and the lion and spike necklaces I recently got from Old Navy.

I'm happy I can still look polished and put together in this heat. How do you beat the heat?

The 4th

I am very excited about starting, and sticking to, my new blog: Windy City Thrifter. I thought I would start my blog on a high note and share my 4th of July outfit. If you follow me on instagram (windycitythrifter) then you have seen this outfit but here it is...
Necklace: Vintage, gifted
Shoes: Payless Shoes
Belt: Thrifted
Lipstick: Mac Russian Red
Independence Day is my anniversary with my boyfriend and we decided to go to our favorite restaurant for dinner and drinks. I kept it comfortable in this vintage red and blue striped dress from my friends at Lost Girls Vintage, and made it sentimental with a necklace my boyfriend got me for Valentine's Day years ago. I've been living in these flats all summer and I thought they finished up the outfit perfectly.

I hope you join me on this ride through the blogging world. I look forward to sharing with you my thrift and sale finds as well as some beauty buys. I look forward to where this may go :)
